The solution is not to stop everything and pay down all technical debt at once. That approach is rarely practical and often unnecessary. Instead, adopt a strategic approach that allocates a consistent percentage of development capacity, typically fifteen to twenty percent, to debt reduction. Prioritize debt items that directly impact the areas where you need to move fastest. Address security-related debt immediately. And invest in automated testing and continuous integration practices that prevent new debt from accumulating as quickly.
